Dojo Rules
Class Protocol
Classes begin with a formal bow to the professor; all students line up in descending belt rank order
Bow when entering and leaving the mat; bow to mat center when stepping off
Bow to your training partner before and after each sparring session
When the instructor is demonstrating techniques, every student must sit in seiza position
If you arrive late, wait outside the training area until welcomed by an instructor
If you must leave the mat or leave class early, ask the Professor for permission first
Uniform & Appearance
Students must wear the official Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu patch on the back and lapel of their Gi
Gi pants and jacket must always match (all white only); keep your Gi clean — wash it after every class
A Gi is required for all gi classes unless specified otherwise
Wear a rash guard under your gi at all times
No-gi classes require the official DMJJCC branded rash guard and shorts
Face the wall when tying your belt; your belt must be kept on at all times
Remove all jewelry, piercings, earrings, rings, necklaces, and watches before training
Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed short
Mat Safety & Etiquette
No shoes, food, or drinks on the mat; shoes must be worn at all times off the mat and lined up neatly or stored in cubbies
Do not train when sick or with open wounds; keep wounds bandaged
Address black belt instructors as 'Professor' and non-black belts as 'Coach'
No outside coaching during class
Minimal talking during class — keep it related to class material
No foul language or belching on the mats
Maintain proper posture during instruction; no slouching or leaning
Store bags and backpacks in the locker room, not on the mat area
Cell phones on silent; keep lobby noise minimal to avoid disrupting classes in progress
Come to class prepared with clean gear and a good attitude
Know your limits but work together and have fun!
